About MidiSnap

MidiSnap turns recordings into MIDI notes and MIDI into sheet music, for free and without an account. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.

We try to be honest about what automatic transcription can do. Clear recordings of one instrument work well; singing, strummed chords and full songs need more cleanup. We publish our own test results on the tool pages.

Who makes MidiSnap

I listen to a lot of music but don't play an instrument myself. This started as a favor: a friend who plays guitar wanted a way to turn his recordings into MIDI he could edit, and the free tools he tried either cut the file short, needed an account, or didn't say how accurate the result actually was. I built him a version to use privately, he liked it, and MidiSnap is that tool made public, with the same honesty about what it gets right and what still needs cleanup.

Piano sound

The MIDI preview plays the Salamander Grand Piano by Alexander Holm, recorded from a Yamaha C5 grand piano, under CC BY 3.0. We use a subset of the samples, one every three semitones, as prepared by the Tone.js project.
