How MIDI to sheet music conversion works
MidiSnap reads the notes in your MIDI file, lines them up on a sixteenth-note grid, picks a key signature from the notes, and draws the score with two staves for piano or one staff for a melody. Notes that cross a bar line are tied, and each staff is written as a single voice so it stays readable.
When the notes reach both well below and well above middle C, it picks a piano score with the two staves split at middle C; otherwise it writes a single staff. You can switch between the two, and the time signature is read from the file when it has one.
It is built for quick lead sheets and piano scores. For engraving details such as lyrics, fingering or multiple voices per staff, download the MusicXML and finish the score in a notation app.
MIDI to sheet music questions
Why does MIDI exported from a DAW look best?
A DAW writes notes exactly on the beat grid and stores the real tempo, so every note lands in the right place in the bar. MIDI recorded from a live performance drifts around the beat, so the notes must be pulled onto a grid first, which is never perfect.
The bars look wrong. How do I fix it?
Set the tempo first: if every note looks twice as long or short as it should, use ÷2 or ×2. Then use the arrows to move the notes by a sixteenth until the first strong beat starts a bar. Changing the time signature to 3/4 helps for waltzes.
Can I get a PDF?
Yes. Choose "Print or save as PDF" and pick "Save as PDF" as the printer. Only the score is printed.
What is MusicXML?
MusicXML is the standard file format for sheet music. Download it to keep editing in MuseScore (free), Sibelius, Finale or Dorico, where you can add lyrics, dynamics and fingering.
Can I turn an MP3 into sheet music?

What happens to multiple tracks and drums?
All pitched tracks are combined into one score, and drum tracks are left out because they have no pitch to write on a staff. For the sheet music of a single part, export only that track from your DAW as its own MIDI file.
Can I convert sheet music to MIDI?
Not here; this tool goes from MIDI to sheet music. If you have the score as MusicXML, open it in MuseScore (free) and export it as MIDI. Scanning printed or PDF sheet music is not supported.
